Veterans Day 2018

    We work Monday – Friday.  We do allow our Veterans a paid day off on Veteran’s day.  This year, Veteran’s day falls on a Sunday.  Since this is a non-work day for us, we were going to have them work as usual on Monday.  I was asked by one of our Veteran’s if we will be honoring it on that Monday.  I know that the State does, but we are a private, non-union company. 

    Question:  Do we have to allow the Monday off paid?  (I realize it would be the right thing to do, but wanted to know legally if we are required to do so).

    You aren't legally mandated to, unless it is a term in a contract.  Although, to avoid the employee frustration, I would recommend giving the day off as a Holiday.
